C RATION BOX

The C ration crate is very similar to the K ration, just differs slightly in size.

A total of 48 cans were stored in each crate. 2 layers of 24 cans were separated by a pad, usually packed with 8 cans of meat & beans, 8 cans of meat & vegetable hash, 8 cans of meat & vegetable stew and 24 cans of bread unit, biscuits, beverage, sugar and confectionery.

I am still struggling to find tins of the same size as the original ones., about 3” dia and 3 ½ high. Best idea is to go to your local supermarket and check out what they have, take the label off and print some labels of your own and stick them on. Let me know if you want the crates making a different size to accommodate your ‘ration’ tins.

See K ration crates regarding the lids.

Price £45.00 plus postage (crate only).

K RATION BOX

The K ration crate was the first that I made, all the dimensions and markings were taken from an original crate.

A total of 36 units were stored in these crates. Placed on their ends in 3 rows of 12 there were 12 breakfast, 12 lunch & 12 supper.

The timber is rough sawn and marked as the photos.

As with the C ration crate, my lid has a batten on the inside to keep the two sections of timber together. The original were held together with metal bands. If you want to fill the crate with goods as intended, either turn the lid inside out (with the batten on the out side) or I will supply the lids loose.

Price £45.00 plus postage (crate only).

D RATION BOX

The D Ration Box is constructed in the same method as the C & K Ration crates, except for being larger in size.

The D ration Crates were used to store the D Ration, a survival ration that was made up of three bars of a 'chocolate' like substance which was then packaged in a 'foil' wrapper and weatherproof outer paper layer. A case contained 12 of these rations and a crate contained 12 cases.

As with the C & K ration crates, my lid has a batten on the inside to keep the two sections of timber together. The original were held together with metal bands. If you want to fill the crate with goods as intended, either turn the lid inside out (with the batten on the out side) or I will supply the lids loose.

Price £45.00 plus postage (crate only).
